OVERVIEW

WHAT IS THE THYROID?

The thyroid, a butterfly-shaped gland at the base of our neck, releases hormones that control our metabolism. It is a regulator of energy for our body. The thyroid hormones control energy, weight, muscle strength, fat percent, heart rate, breathing, temperature, cholesterol levels, nervous system, and menstrual cycles.

Thyroid hormones interact with the adrenal glands and with our sex hormones. In return, the adrenal hormones and sex hormones can affect the function of the thyroid gland. All three systems need to be in balance for our energy to be balanced.
Thyroid disorders are extremely common but unfortunately, often go undiagnosed or improperly treated due to inadequate testing, out of date testing parameters, and limited understanding of underlying causes of dysfunction. At BodyRenu we understand the importance of the thyroid in relation to our patients’ health and have developed an comprehensive program to aid in healing the thyroid and attaining optimal health.

THYROID DYSFUNCTION

Statistics show that about 28 million people in the United States have thyroid dysfunction. That is about 1 in 7 people. That percentage is increasing! About half of those people don’t even know that they have a thyroid condition. About 14 million people have an autoimmune disease called Hashimoto’s thyroiditis. This is a condition that causes the body’s immune system to attack the thyroid gland.

80% of the people with thyroid disease are women.
